The famous Mystery Case Files series returns with its second release of the year. In The Revenant’s Hunt, you are sent to America to tackle a terrifying case. There have been reports of a supernatural creature, known locally as the Revenant, out and about murdering the people of Avondel. Put your detective talents to good use and solve this chilling case!
While we do enjoy the storyline of The Revenant’s Hunt, it is nowhere near as complex as the usual Mystery Case Files plots. The Revenant’s Hunt lacks the MCF charm; characters are not that well-developed, the twists are not at all surprising, and the overall vibe just does not feel very original.
That being said, we have to give props to Eipix for creating such an immersive atmosphere. The outstanding visuals and the epic soundtracks are the two highlights of Mystery Case Files: The Revenant’s Hunt. The realistic artwork and the moody special effects help enhance the creepy factor of the game and the bone-chilling musical scores are exceptionally thrilling.
For advanced players like us, Mystery Case Files: The Revenant’s Hunt is not as challenging as we had expected. The tasks and interactions given in the adventure portion of the game are all very predictable. The hidden object scenes are random, cluttered, and way too straightforward – we have seen far more innovative hidden object scenes in previous works from Eipix. As for the puzzles, while they are more difficult than what most HOPA games have to offer, they are still below the standard set by the previous MCF installments.
Mystery Case Files: The Revenant’s Hunt was enjoyable throughout its four hours, but certainly was not mind-blowing. Luckily, the Collector’s Edition is tightly packed with extras; a strategy guide, a bonus chapter, concept art, wallpapers, videos, soundtracks, achievements, collectibles, case report files, replayable hidden object scenes, replayable mini-games, and morphing objects.
For casual players, Mystery Case Files: The Revenant’s Hunt would still be an entertaining adventure. For fans, however, this sequel certainly does not live up to expectations.
